TVO @ The British Comedy Awards 2014… Sort Of.

THE FOLLOWING ARTICLE WAS ORIGINALLY WRITTEN FOR THE VELVET ONION. THE VIDEO WAS EDITED BY MYSELF, USING MATERIAL SHOT BY NIGEL THOMAS AND LOUIS CHRISTIE, AFTER I ARRANGED FOR THEM TO REPRESENT TVO AT THE BRITISH COMEDY AWARDS 2014.

Earlier this week, The British Comedy Awards 2014 took place in Wembley, with a number of TVO regulars winning awards, including Aisling Bea, Katherine Parkinson, Moone Boy and Toast of London.

TVO had been graciously invited to attend the event, but couldn’t make it on the night, so we sent musician, actor and presenter Nigel Thomas (formerly of criminally underrated band The Foxes, now a solo artist) along to report in our place.  This is the result…

Our huge thanks to Nigel and collaborator Louie Christie for attending the event, and standing around for hours whilst the vast majority of stars ignored the ‘blue carpet’ to savour the delights of the main room. Thanks also to Matt Berry and Sandi Toksvig for agreeing to speak to us, and Seann Walsh and Paul Chowdhry for bringing their comedic game to the table.

Video: Downloading Noel’s Brain – The Making Of Luxury Comedy

In July 2011, myself and Paulyne Antoniou filmed behind the scenes material on the set of Noel Fielding’s Luxury Comedy.  Our footage was unleashed in February 2012, once the embargo on the included clips was lifted, gaining over 21,000 hits to date.  Much of what we shot was later utilised by the team at production company Secret Peter for inclusion in their making of documentary for the official dvd release.  That dvd is available in Australia now, with a UK release expected in December 2013.

Video: TVO Meets Hot Brew

In July 2011, TVO hooked up with Oona & Crispin Wheatflake of Hot Brew to discuss their forthcoming live appearances, their recorded work, root vegetables and the end of the world.

This mostly improvised spoof interview featured Alice Lowe and Antony Elvin in character and in conversation with myself.  We shot almost 90 minutes of footage to edit down to a two-part interview, and the results were one of the funniest experiences of my life.

In December 2011, we uploaded a series of out-takes created by the impromptu decision to make a Christmas message.  The results have to be seen to be believed.

Video: Scribblings In Manchester

On Saturday November 12th 2011, Noel Fielding & Dave Brown descended on Waterstones in Manchester Arndale to create a live art installation and sign copies of their new book, The Scribblings Of A Madcap Shambleton.

The Velvet Onion was on hand to document the event – and here is a selection of our footage, all filmed by myself, with photography on the day by Lauren Taylor.

The Scribblings Of A Madcap Shambleton is available now from Canongate Books, and contains a TVO flavoured double-page spread of our readers, painted on by Noel.
